When any British couple are on the lookout for a romantic getaway, they generally look to classic European cities such as Prague, Budapest, Rome and Paris, but very few actually look closer to home. This is a shame really because here in England there are so many beautiful counties which provide the perfect environment for a couple’s retreat. We all have varying ideas of what a romantic break is, yet there is such variety in the England that there is something here to suit any couple’s requirements. To give you an idea of just how many beautiful options there are here in England, these are just a few of our favorite counties, which we think make for the perfect place for a romantic getaway.
Cornwall is a wonderful place to enjoy a romantic weekend break and it has long been a favorite of mine. Set in the extreme south of England, Cornwall is a county which offers equal measures of beauty and bliss where you can spend days walking the gorgeous coastline, relaxing in quaint fishing villages, enjoying the catch of the day, and staying in cottages which appear as though they have been stashed away in secret locations, far from the watching eye.
For many people a romantic break is about getting away from it all and that is exactly what you will be able to do in Cumbria, specifically in its national park the Lake District. Here there are thousands of square miles of nothing but mountains, streams, valleys, lakes and caves, the perfect place to forget about life for a while and enjoy some valuable time with your partner. Interspersed within the natural splendor of the Lake District are some great little towns and villages, perfect for a local beer in front of a log fire, before heading back to your accommodation for the night. The Lakes are a popular place but not so much so that it ever really gets busy, mainly because of the sheer size of the region. Thanks to this popularity there are a number of luxury hotels, many of which sit on the lakeside, that make for the perfect spot for you and your loved one to enjoy your break.
In south central England you will find the blissful county of Gloucestershire and the jewel in the crown of this county is without question the Cotswolds. It is here that you will find the best of Britain, a region which seems as though it has been unchanged for centuries with old buildings and sleepy towns that make for a great place for you and your partner to escape for a while. This is England at its very best, colorful, quiet and littered with cobbled streets, running streams and some of the finest pubs and restaurants in the country. The Cotswolds are slightly more expensive than the other counties listed here, but what you get for your money makes it more than worthwhile.
